The chemistry between these two was beyond explosive and set my entire body on FIRE as sparks were flying all around. The author, Miranda Silver was the puppet master pulling on all of my heartstrings, so tightly in fact that I ache just thinking back to Patrick and Christina’s story. Priceless is the first book that I have been fortunate enough to read from this author, but I know that she has instantly made it to the top of my one-click author list (a huge shout out to my number one book bestie, Michelle Clay, for recommending this amazing one to me). I mean seriously I can’t even begin to describe the feelings that I experienced while devouring all the words that this EPIC story had to offer. Where in the ever loving hell has this book been all my adult life? I never knew how much I needed a dirty talker in my life until Patrick came along. I think you’re going to be the perfect playmate. When I finally seek out Patrick Caruthers, he has a proposition. The more you hide your true self, the more you’re going to let it out with me. I let money run through my fingers because I’m done reaching for standards I’ll never meet. Maybe you like the dark more than you think. The first time I meet the wolf’s cold eyes, we’re at a college party. Are you afraid of the dark, Christina? I don’t need the lights on to read you like a book.

It’s been 84 years since we last saw Dex and Sloan. Looking back to a past he thought he’d left behind is the least of Sloane’s problems, because the greatest threat he’s about to encounter… is his own husband. When their latest mission takes a personal turn, Sloane is forced to confront the very thing that created him. But no matter the challenge, Sloane knows that together, he and his husband, Dex, can overcome anything. Failure is not an option, but as the mission goes from dangerous to deadly, Dex finds himself up against a far more terrifying force, and this time, there’s no escape.Īs former team leader for Destructive Delta and now a TIN operative, Sloane Daley knows what it feels like to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. But a new mission brings him face-to-face with a different kind of monster, one with a weapon that can alter the course of history. Hell, his middle name is literally Justice. As a spy for the Therian Intelligence Network, Dex has spent the last four years bringing down the bad guys. Chaos isn’t so much a codename as it is Dex’s state of being. Former THIRDS agent turned TIN operative Dexter J. 7/8/2023 0 Comments The peripheral trilogyBurton's headset comes from a fictional Colombian company called "Milagros Coldiron" - obviously a shell corporation for those in the future to operate in the past. Even if they can only affect 2032 through technology, those in the future hold great power over history, especially since they already possess foreknowledge of events to come, and The Peripheral implies this problem is already starting. This is how Burton performs gymnastics down the hallways of Buckingham Palace, while Flynne is shown in trailer footage deploying expert martial arts moves that Kick-Ass' Hit-Girl would be proud of.Ģ100's ability to communicate with the past obviously has wider, more sinister applications than just recruiting skilled gamers to pilot drones. Naturally, The Peripheral's robots possess superior physical attributes to the person driving it - just like in a video game. As an added bonus (or a massive drawback, depending on your situation), every sensation the robot feels is experienced by its headset-clad controller in the past. 7/8/2023 0 Comments Gail honeyman new bookIt was different than I imagined, and I had a hard time getting into it. Just that Reese Witherspoon had it in her book club, so I should read it too (I love her y’all). I wasn’t sure what kind of book I was diving into when I picked this up. The only way to survive is to open your heart. Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.īut everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine. 7/8/2023 0 Comments Finding your inner fishHe points out the importance of teeth to the paleontologist. Shubin looks at an often overlooked piece of anatomy, teeth. He takes a “forest to the tree” approach, starting with limbs and getting progressively smaller, analyzing tissue, cells, and finally genes. Shubin does a fine job keeping the reader interested. This is a brilliant example of homology, that is, similarities in structure across taxa that are due to inheritance by a common ancestor.Ĭhapter 3 discusses genes, an important commonality among related species. The only differences across taxa are the shapes and sizes of the bones and number of blobs and digits. Shubin points out the basic common design shared by all limbed vertebrates: “One bone, followed by two bones, then little blobs, then fingers or toes” (p. At that point in my mind, there was no doubt that a bat wing was a hand with modified elongated fingers. Although I have seen it illustrated many times, in a variety of textbooks, seeing the actual bones themselves immediately elicited this vision of a spidery, “Nosferatu-” type hand. I remember attending the opening of the Darwin exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History and viewing the bone structure of a bat wing. This is one of the oldest (and strongest) pieces of evidence supporting evolution. My favorite chapter in the book is Chapter 2, which focuses on the similarities of limb structures in various creatures. Sure to inspire giggles and requests to "read it again!" With its spare, rhythmic text and circular tale, 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie' (1985) is perfect for beginning readers and story time. This book is a great first introduction to Mouse, the star of the 'If You Give.' Series, and a perennial favorite among children. The consequences of giving a cookie to this energetic mouse run the young host ragged, but readers of all ages will come away smiling at the antics that tumble like dominoes through the pages of this delightful picture book. He'll want to look in a mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache, and then he'll ask for a pair of scissors to give himself a trim. If you give him a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. If a hungry little traveler shows up at your house, you might want to give him a cookie. An Aesop: To paraphrase Raina's teacher, everyone has their own struggles and battles. In terms of premise, Guts is much closer to Smile than Sisters, Drama, or Ghosts, as it covers more than a full school year and deals more with Raina's bodiliy insecurities than relationships with specific family members or teenage romance. This is exacerbated by her friends treating life as a giant gross out session. While she thinks it's a bug at first, she slowly discovers she has anxiety, especially about germs and food. One night, Raina wakes up with a stomach ache. If you want to read the stories in perfect chronological order, you'd need to strictly read the flashbacks in Sisters and the one in Smile in order, then read Guts, then read about three-quarters of Smile, then read Sisters when you get to the summer before 9th Grade, and finally read the rest of Smile. It is a Prequel to both Smile and Sisters note Both Smile and Sisters feature flashbacks for Raina from her as a toddler desperate for a younger sister. Guts is a 2019 autobiographical graphic novel written by Raina Telgemeier. 7/8/2023 0 Comments Dear aaron by mariana zapataHow many months do you have left in your deployment? Since we’re in this for the long haul, I’ll ask you a few questions so we can start getting to know each other. I’m sure you’re busy, so I won’t bore you too much now. I’m not even close to being rich, but hopefully every once in a while, I can send you a care package. You can let me know which you would rather get. Since I’m not sure if you prefer e-mails or getting letters, I’ll do both in the meantime. Please don’t feel obligated to tell me where you are unless you want to. All I know is that you’re a staff sergeant. After we get the hang of this, I’ll try not to send you the same message that I also e-mail because that would get boring.) According to the foundation’s guidelines, I’m supposed to reach out to you once a week while you are deployed… wherever it is you’re deployed. (It’ll probably be a month or so from now before you start getting mail from me, so this might get a bit awkward. I’m not sure if you’ve participated with Help a Soldier in the past or if this is your first time, but if you aren’t familiar with the fine print of the program, I’ll break you in so that you aren’t wondering why this person named Ruby from Houston, Texas is e-mailing and sending you letters. Dear Aaron, My name is Ruby Santos, and I’m your new pairing through the Help a Soldier Foundation. 7/7/2023 0 Comments Metamorphoses bookThe palace of the Sun towered up with raised columns, bright with glittering gold, and gleaming bronze like fire.
